OLIVER SPRINGS (WATE) - A Roane County man died Sunday night when the vehicle in which he was a passenger ran off the road.

A report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol indicates a 1999 Dodge Ram pickup truck being driven by 35-year-old Otto Flachbert, III was traveling northbound on Highway 327 near Phillips Hollow Road just before 8:30 p.m. when the vehicle left the roadway in a curve.

Flachbert overcorrected causing the vehicle to overturn.

Passenger Fred Collins, Jr., 48, was killed in the crash. Flachbert and a second passenger, Cody York, 23, were not hurt.

Testing revealed Flachbert was under the influence of some type of drug at the time of the crash.

Collins was not wearing a seat belt, though everyone one else in the vehicle was wearing one. Troopers say a seat belt may have saved Collins' life.
