CLINTON (WATE) - A 20-year-old man was arrested last week for trying to attend Anderson County High School.

Montreal Deangelo Washington has been charged with false report, criminal impersonation and being a prohibited person on school premises.

Anderson County Sheriff's Department officials say Assistant Principal Travis Hutcheson called them on Sept. 19 to report a suspicious man who had gotten off the school bus.

Hutcheson told officers a guidance counselor did not recognize the man and stopped him.

Officers say the man, identified as Montreal Washington, told officials he was 17 years old, a junior and a new student. He also allegedly used an incorrect name, saying Deangelo was not his middle name.

When asked why his parent or guardian didn't register him at the school, Washington said his mother had died in 2005 and his step-father was a truck driver and could not.

He also could not provide a phone number for his father or any identification.

During the conversation, the name of his previous schools came up. When contacted, they confirmed Washington was 20 years old, born on June 4, 1993.

School administrators then decided they wanted Washington removed from campus and officers escorted him to his home in Lake City.

Later, the school received paperwork confirming Washington's age, and also that he had been arrested in Ohio for robbery, resisting arrest, obstruction of official business, and criminal tools.

Around 7:15 p.m. that day, officers learned that Washington was playing basketball on the courts in Lake City.

Officers then informed Washington he was under arrest, and he immediately began to resist.

During the struggle, the arresting officer received injuries to his finger and legs.
