Car seat inspection events held throughout East Tennessee

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Child Passenger Safety Week is Sept. 15-21, and a number of car seat inspection events are scheduled throughout the remainder of 2013 in East Tennessee.

Car crashes are the leading cause of death to children in the United States, and statistics show a lot of parents either buckle up their kids the wrong way, or do not do it at all.

Experts want to remind everyone that putting children in age and size appropriate car seats and booster seats reduces injuries by more than half.

Children's Hospital has a number of car seat inspection events scheduled for the remainder of the year. The events are free and open to the public, and appointments are not necessary.

An inspection will be held in the Oak Ridge area on November 16 at Oak Ridge Fire Department Station #1, 609 Oak Ridge Turnpike.

One will be held in the Harriman area on December 17 at Regions Bank, 200 North Roane Street.

Events will be held in Clinton on October 1, November 5 and December 3 at the City of Clinton Fire Department, Station #1, 100 Longmire Street.

An event is also scheduled at the Sevierville Fire Department Station #2, 423 Collier Drive, on November 7.

In addition, the Knoxville Police Department conducts car seat inspections on the second Saturday of every month at the KPD Safety Unit at 917 E. Fifth Avenue.
