KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Apple's release of two new iPhones Friday lacked the hysteria of previous launches, but that didn't stop some fans from lining up early to become among the first to own the new gadgets.

The new iPhone 5S, that scans your fingerprint, and its cheaper little sister the 5C, which is encased in candy-colored plastic, were revealed in an introduction presentation last week.

Stores in Knoxville and across the U.S. were allowed to begin selling them Friday morning.

By 6:00 a.m. about 15 people were waiting in line outside the Verizon Wireless store in Turkey Creek. They started lining up around 11 p.m. Thursday in anticipation of the store's opening at 8 a.m., an hour earlier than normal.

Some skipped school and work just for the guarantee that they will walk away with a new iPhone.

It's become a tradition for many people to get up before the sun rises to secure a place in line for the latest apple release.

"It's a very exciting day," said Jeremy Floyd. "As adults we don't get to experience that sort of Christmas day excitement."

Floyd last waited in line for the iPhone 4S

"I have done this for every iPhone I have purchased," said Floyd. "I have come out and waited in line pretty early, but I don't camp out overnight I usually try between 4 and 5 a.m."

That was enough to secure him the number 5 spot in line, a fitting place as he waits to get his hands on the 5s.

In all, 46 people lined up before the store opened, and they all left with exactly what they came for. They all say it was worth the wait.

The Verizon store assembled a full staff in preparation for the eager early birds.

The phone was also available in several other locations, including Knoxville's Apple store in West Town Mall.
