KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The University of Tennessee Vols are hoping to beat the Florida Gators this weekend, but people  in Knoxville are planning on eating some gator in honor of the consistently heated match-up.

Phil Dangel, owner of The Shrimp Dock, says the restaurant and seafood market had record sales of gator meat ahead of last year's game. A whopping 2,000 pounds went out the door.

Dangel expects this year's sales to be a little less, since it's an away game, but it's still one of their biggest weeks of the year.

"We look forward to the game. We look forward to a Vols victory," said Dangel. "There is still a lot of excitement about the game. Anytime you play the Gators, people are excited."

The gator meat at the shrimp dock comes straight from Louisiana.

Dangel says they only sell about a hundred pounds of the meat throughout the rest of the year.
