One killed, two injured in South Knoxville collision

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - One person has died after a two-vehicle collision Sunday in South Knoxville Sunday.

Police say a Nissan Altima driven by Leslie Whaley, 33, was struck on the passenger side by a Ford Mustang driven by Joshua Massa, 39, at the intersection of Wynn Avenue and Cottrell Street.

The impact bushed both vehicles along Cottrell Street, across a sidewalk, and into a ditch. The Altima came to a rest after hitting a tree.

Whaley, the driver of the Altima, was pronounced dead at UT Medical Center. She was not wearing a seat belt.

Massa and his passenger, Michael Booker, 56, were taken to UT Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash investigation is ongoing.
