South Greene High School stabbing suspect makes first court appearance


GREENEVILLE (WATE) - A teenager charged with attempted first degree murder in the stabbing of a classmate at South Greene High School appeared in court Friday morning.

During the hearing, the 16-year-old suspect was ordered to remain in the Upper East Tennessee Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Johnson City.

The judge also issued a gag order to detectives and attorneys.

The Greene County Sheriff's Office says a 15-year-old male student was seated in the cafeteria area before school Tuesday morning when he was stabbed multiple times by a 16-year-old boy.

A female student stepped in and broke up the altercation.

The suspect's next hearing is scheduled for Nov. 7.
