KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Many teachers are getting special recognition this week in Knox County as schools celebrate the second annual Thank a Teacher Week.

Knox County Schools Superintendent Dr. Jim McIntyre helped kick the week off Monday morning by serving breakfast to Halls Middle and High School teachers.

He told 6 News that several other events are also planned for the week, but some will be a surprise.

"We've got a whole slate of events that are scheduled for this week to really show our appreciation to our teachers, make sure that they know how much our community cares and supports the work that they do," said Dr. McIntyre.

A national Teacher Appreciation Week is held each year in the spring, but organizers of Knox County's event say it often gets overlooked in such a busy time of year.
