SEVIERVILLE (WATE) - City of Sevierville fire officials have officially determined the cause of five house fires on Apple Ridge Way last week were arson.

"In light of evidence collected at the scene and the subsequent investigation to date, it is apparent that the five house fires were set intentionally," Sevierville Fire Marshal Tommy White said.

The fires started with a brush fire reported around 3:45 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 23.

When fire officials arrived, they found one house fully engulfed in flames. Four other homes were on fire.

According to the deeds on record for the properties, all five homes are owned by the same person and were purchased at a foreclosure auction back in 2005.
