WIC to continue for a limited time during government shutdown

Posted:

NASHVILLE (WATE) - The Tennessee Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program will continue during the government shutdown, at least for the time being.

Officials with the program say it has some carry-forward funding that will be used to provide normal services to WIC clients currently.

However, WIC officials are asking clients to consider calling their local health departments next week to ask about possible changes if the government shutdown continues.

WIC provides supplemental food to low-income pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants and children until the age of five.
