KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Savvy East Tennessee parents look forward all year long to Duck Duck Goose, Knoxville's largest children's consignment sale.

Although the event doesn't open to the public until Thursday, some lucky parents got to save big at a special pre-sale Wednesday.

It's the fall winter edition of the massive twice-yearly children's consignment event.

"I think this is one of the best sales in East Tennessee," said Jennifer Spahr, who drove from Cookeville to shop at Duck Duck Goose.

More than 2,000 consigners have filled Knoxville's Expo Center to the brim with items for children.

"If you're looking to save money, this is where to come," said Spahr. "You're getting stuff that's practically new."

Parents rushed in, hoping to cash in on the markdowns.

"They're some of the best deals that you can find and it saves tons of money. Last year I saved over $500 on retail," said Spahr.

"It's kind of like Black Friday shopping for us two times a year. We enjoy it," said Josh Williams of Knoxville, shopping with his wife for their two children.

Duck Duck Goose is a one-stop shop for parents looking to stock up on everything for their kids, from clothing and shoes to toys and books.

"We haven't bought something brand new for my daughter since she was born. We've always got our stuff here whether it's a stroller, a crib," said Williams.

Parents can save hundreds, even thousands in the process.

"I think a lot of families can clothe their entire families here for less than it would cost at even Walmart," said Courtney Ibach, co-owner of Knoxville's Duck Duck Goose.

Those savings are what makes this one of the most highly-anticipated consignment events of the year.

"We usually spend $150 to $200, but by the looks of it when we leave, it looks like we've spent $300 or $400," said Williams.

"You have a chance to shop and maybe get your children stuff that they wouldn't have otherwise," said Spahr.

Duck Duck Goose is open October 3 to 7 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and is closed on Sunday. The last day of the event everything is half price.

Many consigners donate the items still left at the end of the sale to more than 40 local charities.
