Oak RIdge DOE workers concerned about possible furloughs

OAK RIDGE (WATE) - The union representing approximately 2,100 workers at the U.S. Department of Energy sites in Oak Ridge sent a letter Wednesday to several lawmakers saying those workers are in danger of getting furloughed due to the government shutdown.

The Atomic Trades and Labor Council is asking the lawmakers to pass a budget to fund the government, saying they expect lawmakers to sit down and resolve their conflicts the same way union members and contractors do.

The letter was sent to Senators Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker and U.S. Representatives Chuck Fleischmann, Jimmy Duncan and Scott DesJarlais.

It is not yet known if any of them have responded.
