Judge denies new trial for Y-12 protesters

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A judge denied a new trial for three protestors who broke into the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge.

U.S. District Judge Amul R. Thapar also ruled against a motion to acquit the three.

Sister Megan Rice, Michael Walli and Greg Boertje-Obed were convicted in May of sabotaging the plant and damaging federal property last year.

They are scheduled to be sentenced on January 28 and face up to 30 years in prison.
