Rep. Chuck Fleischmann: Senate, White House refuse to compromise on shutdown

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - As the U.S. government shutdown continues, there seem to be no signs of a compromise. Congress could not pass a bill to fund the fiscal year before a midnight deadline on October 1, mostly due to disagreements on whether to defund or delay the Affordable Care Act.

Tennessee Rep. Chuck Fleischmann spoke to 6 News on Wednesday, saying neither the Senate nor the White House were willing to come to the table to discuss the issues.

Fleischmann called Obamacare a disaster, saying the American people do not want it, despite passage by both chambers of Congress and the re-election of President Obama.

"It's a disaster. Not only for the people of Tennessee, but for the people of the United States of America. The Affordable Health Care Act is just not working. It's bad policy. This was a law that had to be basically voted on before they could find out what's in it," said Fleischmann.
