Knox County mosquito spraying canceled

Knox County mosquito spraying canceled

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Follow up mosquito spraying originally scheduled for Thursday night in several areas of Knox County has been canceled due to low temperatures.

The Knox County Health Department says weather conditions like rain and temperatures near 55 degrees can compromise the effectiveness of the spray.

The spraying had originally been scheduled in the Milligan Street, Chapman Highway, Asheville Highway/Carter, Choto, and Cumberland Estates areas due to lab test results showing the presence of West Nile Virus.

The health department is still advising residents to take steps to protect themselves since mosquitoes are still active in some areas.

Residents are advised to wear appropriate clothing and repellant when outside and mosquitoes are present, dispose of or empty containers holding water on your property, make sure roof gutters are clear, change the water in birdbaths, and use a mosquito repellant that contains DEET.
