KNOXVILLE (WATE) - It's been about five years since Knoxville's Baptist Hospital closed, and Saturday, hundreds of employees were reunited.

"A lot of smiles today, a lot of hugs, a lot of tears," said Dr. David Rankin. "So, it's been a great day."

The old hospital now sits vacant on the south side of the Tennessee River. Earlier this summer, a $165 million redevelopment plan was announced which would include apartments, restaurants and a hotel.

$22 million of that would be paid for through Tax Increment Financing (TIF) from the city of Knoxville and Knox County.

"It's in a hallowed location to us. And we were so blessed to work there," said Linda Doughty. "And we'd like to see it be something special for Knoxville."

The TIF proposal is expected to go to city council for approval on Tuesday and more meetings are scheduled for later this month.

If the deal passes every hurdle, it would be the largest TIF in city history.
