KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A car hauler caught fire on Interstate 40 near Midway Road Sunday morning, causing the west bound lane to be closed for more than an hour.

Just before 11:00 a.m., the Knoxville Fire Department responded to a 911 call reporting a car hauler in the west bound lane of Interstate 40 at the Midway Rd exit on fire.

The driver of the eighteen wheeler said a passing motorist alerted him to the flames at the rear of his trailer. According to officials, the fire appears to have started around the rear wheels of the tractor, then spread upward engulfing two of the vehicles in tow before being extinguished.

The hauler was carrying used cars to an area auto auction. The west bound lanes of I-40 were shut down for nearly an hour. No injuries were reported and no other vehicles were involved.
