BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Tennessee is the favorite to win the Southeastern Conference women's basketball title.
The Lady Vols edged Kentucky in balloting by a panel of 15 SEC and national media members released on Monday.
Defending regular season champion Tennessee returns three starters from a team that went 27-8 and advanced to the NCAA regional finals. SEC co-player of the year Meighan Simmons and freshman of the year Bashaara Graves are back.
Tennessee received 192 points while Kentucky got 185 and LSU 156.
Simmons received 10 votes as player of the year and LSU's Theresa Plaisance got the remaining three. Two voters didn't pick an All-SEC team or player of the year.
They're joined as preseason All-SEC first-teamers by Kentucky's DeNesha Stallworth, Tennessee's Bashaara Graves and Vanderbilt's Jasmine Lister. (Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.)
