Motorcyclist seriously injured in wreck on Middlebrook Pike

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A motorcyclist was taken to a Knoxville hospital with life-threatening injuries Monday night after being involved in a wreck.

Knoxville police say the wreck happened just before 11 p.m. on Middlebrook Pike, just west of Old Middlebrook Pike.

Police say a 2004 Suzuki XR1 motorcycle operated by David Parton, 26, was traveling west on Middlebrook Pike at an extremely high rate of speed.

According to witness statements, the motorcycle ran the red light at the intersection with Gallaher View Road and continued west.

The witness then found Parton had crashed just west of Old Middlebrook Pike and may have hit another vehicle. That vehicle did not stop.

Parton was found lying in the westbound lanes of the street. Police say he was wearing a helmet, but was driving on a suspended license.

Parton was taken to UT Medical Center with possibly life-threatening injuries.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the Knoxville Police Department crime information line at (865) 215-7212.
