2013 SturgeonFest in Knox County canceled due to government shutdown

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The 2013 SturgeonFest, scheduled to be held at the Seven Islands Wildlife Refuge in East Knox County, has been canceled due to the government shutdown according to The Tennessee Clean Water Network.

The event would have been held Sunday Oct. 20, but will now be held sometime in 2014.

TCWN officials say the highlight of the event would have been a sturgeon release into the French Broad River. The sturgeon would have been obtained from a U.S. Fish and Wildlife hatchery that is now closed due to the government shutdown.

SturgeonFest is an environmental education activity of TCWN.
