Johnson City looking for art for park

JOHNSON CITY (AP) - An eastern Tennessee city has the "artists wanted" sign out.

The Public Art Committee of Johnson City is trying to find artists to submit proposals for sculptures to decorate and animate the new Founders Park.

Committee member Catherine Murray told the Johnson City Press the city wants artists who can create a large-scale project incorporating signage for the parks' retention pond project.

One requirement for all submitted proposals is that each one must display and use the name "Founders Park" in their project.

The deadline to submit proposals is Dec. 20 and then a selection committee will judge them and narrow the list to three finalists.

A formal unveiling for the art project is tentatively scheduled for early December 2014.
