3-year construction project begins in Williamson County Sunday

Crews are set to begin work on a three-year construction project in Williamson County that will widen a portion of Interstate 65.

The busy roadway will be expanded from two to four lanes in each direction at Peytonsville Road South to State Route 840.

Officials with the Tennessee Department of Transportation said the $46 million project will help ease traffic congestion for the 62,000 vehicles that travel the stretch of road each day.

In addition to the interstate project, TDOT is also planning an overhaul of the Goose Creek overpass above I-65 which will include an eight lane bridge with dual left turn lanes and three lanes in each direction.

Construction is expected to be complete June 2016.
