KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Police have arrested a man that they say carjacked a woman in the Downtown Knoxville area Thursday evening.

Officers responded to the report of a carjacking just before 6 p.m. in the parking lot of the former Regas Restaurant, which is located on the 300 block of Gay Street.

The victim, Teresa Scarbrough, told police her 1998 Toyota Corolla was stolen.

After questioning witnesses, officials determined that Eddie Sawyer, 37, was a possible suspect.  He had just been dropped off at Knox Area Rescue Ministries 90 minutes earlier by police.

An undercover officer then spotted the stolen Toyota at a convenience store on Broadway and took Sawyer into custody.

Authorities found crack cocaine on Sawyer.  He is being charged with aggravated robbery, carjacking and possession of a controlled substance.
