Jackson police investigating sheriff over incident

JACKSON (AP) - The Jackson Police Department is investigating a complaint that Madison County Sheriff David Woolfork went to an employee's home, banged on her back door and said he wanted to talk about resuming a sexual relationship.

Attorney Deborah Godwin represents the employee, Sharon Sangster. Goodwin says the October 10 incident and other behavior by Woolfork led her to file a sexual harassment complaint against the sheriff with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Godwin told The Jackson Sun that her client has been on sick leave since Tuesday because of the work environment.

Woolfork's attorney, Mark Donahoe, denied any misbehavior by his client.

Sangster got an order of protection from the sheriff and is due in court on October 23 to determine if a permanent order will be issued.
