RICEVILLE (WATE) - A McMinn County man was arrested Friday morning on accusations he tried to burn down a neighbor's house and violated an active order of protection.

Charles Anthony Jones, 50, is charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder, aggravated stalking, violation of order of protection, and aggravated arson.

Sheriff Joe Guy says officers and firefighters responded to a car on fire in the garage of the Hixon family residence, 140 County Road 146, around 3 a.m. Friday.

Two members of the family were home at the time. The fire was quickly extinguished.

The sheriff says the Hixons have experienced problems with Jones over the pas few months, saying he has repeatedly harassed and stalked them.

"Jones was arrested for the offenses a few weeks ago, and an order of protection against Jones was handed down from court. Of course, Jones was a suspect in this incident as well," said Guy.

A few hours later, Jones called 911 to file a complaint about the Hixon family. He later admitted to officers to attempting to burn the Hixon family's car and house by lighting paper covered in dog manure and throwing it on the Hixons' car.

Jones was taken to the McMinn County Justice Center and is scheduled for arraignment Monday.
