91 opt-out notices filed in Pilot Flying J case

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A judge gave Pilot Flying J more time Friday to turn over documents as it faces lawsuits from trucking companies in the fuel rebate scandal.

The deadline was extended to November 18 at a hearing on lawsuits filed in Knox County court.

An attorney for Pilot told the judge that 91 opt-out notices have been filed, removing trucking companies from the proposed federal class action settlement.

Pilot's attorney says, however, that the number is misleading since some of those companies are connected.

Seven Pilot workers have pleaded guilty in connection with an alleged scheme to cheat companies out of rebates on diesel purchases.
