KARNS (WATE) - A meeting to discuss plans for a new business park in Karns was held Tuesday night at Karns High School.

The Development Corporation of Knox County is asking to rezone nearly 70 acres, known as the Butler Farm near Garrison Road, which is located east of Pellissippi Parkway and north of Hardin Valley Road.

Developers say the site could create nearly 1,000 new jobs with over $50 million in economic impact for Knox County.

Karns residents who attended this evening's meeting expressed concern about the plan. They say existing industrial parks are not being used to their full capacity and should be filled before a new park is developed.

"We have an industrial park down here called Westbridge. It has a lot of empty spaces in it. They just opened a new one a mile down the road on Hardin Valley. There's one building in it. There's 100 acres there. We don't feel we need to come up here and buy another 70 acres right now," said Gary Wolfenbarger of Karns

The Metropolitan Planning Commission will consider the request during its November 14 meeting.
