KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knox County Commissioner Mike Hammond formally announced Wednesday that he is running for the office of Knox County Clerk of Criminal Courts.

"At my campaign kickoff November 20 at 4:30 p.m. at Calhoun's on the River, I will outline my vision for the office and how it can better serve the citizens of Knox County," said Hammond in a news release.

Hammond will be running in the May 2014 Republican Primary.

He first told 6 News last week that he was considering a run for the position after hearing from at least a half dozen different county sources that issues in the office Knox County Criminal Court Clerk Joy McCroskey are causing possible legal liabilities for the sheriff's office and the county, with people being improperly arrested and cases being dismissed.
