MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -

A 24-year-old woman who jumped from Middle Tennessee State University's Floyd Stadium is okay despite suffering some injuries.

"I don't know why she was jumping, but there were indications she might have been under the influence of alcohol," MTSU Police Sgt. Broede Stuckey told News 2. "This person chose to make a poor choice. She tried to defy the laws of gravity and failed."

Police and witnesses News 2 spoke to said 24-year-old Jacqueline Brewer jumped about 12-feet from a flight of stairs and landed in a fenced in area on the ground between the football and baseball stadiums just after 10:30 p.m.

"People were up on the stairway there and they are talking about her falling off or jumping, so I looked back up there and the crowd sat she jumped," said Ray Ufford who was leaving the game just in front of the woman.

He continued, "I jumped that fence, went over to her to check if she was alright, checked her toes, breathing--she was conscious, but kind of disoriented."

Numerous police and rescue units scrambled to the scene just near Gate Three at Floyd Stadium.

"I saw cops down there waiting. They were running around trying to find out where this was happening, trying to get the gate open to this alley right here," MTSU band member Danny Ford told News 2 Friday as he walked by the spot where the woman jumped.

Immediately following the incident, Brewer was "conscious, but not very coherent" authorities stated.

Brewer initially denied medical attention, but responding emergency personnel advised she needed to be evaluated.

She was taken to nearby St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. Brewer's boyfriend told News 2 Friday afternoon she is has been released from the hospital and is okay.

MTSU beat Marshal 51-49.
