Campbell County teacher investigated for alleged inappropriate conduct

LAFOLLETTE (WATE) - A LaFollette Middle School teacher has been placed on suspension without pay, pending the outcome of a police investigation.

Campbell County school officials say Lonnie Vann is being investigated for alleged inappropriate conduct. The sheriff's office says Vann has not been arrested.

Vann has been an employee with the school system for more than 15 years, and officials say he has never had any problems prior to this incident.

Vann teaches history and social studies at the middle school. He has also taught high school in the past.

School officials say they hope the investigation will be finished by the end of the week.

"If you don't investigate, if you don't look into matters, then they're not safe. The more you pry, and look into and communicate with your students, and they feel open to make comments to teachers, and other employees, the safer they are," Larry Nidiffer, the secondary supervisor of Campbell County Schools, said.
