KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A special fundraiser is being held Monday and Tuesday for Star 102.1 radio host Kim Hansard who announced publicly last week that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The event called "Purple Is the New Pink" at De Spa and Salon, 984 East Emory Road, benefits Hansard as well as the American Cancer Society.

The salon is filled with Hansard's favorite color, purple. She was there Monday night getting her hair trimmed and a few surprises.  She's been coming to the salon for 15 years, and says the staff is like family.

The salon is donating all profits Monday and Tuesday to the American Cancer Society. As Kim prepared for surgery scheduled for Tuesday, she said she's overwhelmed with support.

"I'm overwhelmed, but its in a good way," said Hansard. "To the community of Knoxville and the Star 102.1 listeners, and my friends and family, and people I've never met before coming up to me telling me their thoughts and prayers are with me, it means more to me than anyone can ever imagine. I can feel those prayers lifting me up. I just want to say thank you and I can never say thank you enough. Know that it's from my heart."

The salon is open until 9:00 Monday night, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday. There are still appointments available.

De Spa and Salon is offering nail art and hair services for five dollar donations and nail services for three dollars.

Donations to the American Cancer Society can also be dropped off at the salon.
