UT extends fall 2014 semester application deadlines

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The University of Tennessee has extended its application deadlines for the fall 2014 semester.

November 15 is now the early-action deadline to be considered for competitive scholarships and the Chancellor's Honors Program.

December 15 is the new regular application deadline.

According to a release from the university, the deadlines are being extended because of technical issues with the Common Application, a non-profit membership organization that helps students apply to multiple colleges and universities at the same time.

Prospective UT students apply through the Vol in Progress (VIP) system or Common Application.

Those who have already applied using Common Applications should not apply a second time.

Students applying only to UT can streamline their efforts by using the VIP system.

Prospective students and their parents should also note two other important deadlines.

February 1 is the filing deadline for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Applying for admission and completing the FAFSA form is all students need to do to be eligible for the state's HOPE Scholarship, UT's Pledge scholarship and many federal and state grants.

May 1 is the deadline for admitted students to confirm their attendance by paying a nonrefundable enrollment deposit of $250.
