KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The Tennessee Highway Patrol says it issued 190 citations during its two-day special enforcement campaign which had a focus on texting and driving.

Troopers drove the front end of a tractor trailer in various parts of Knox County on Oct. 29 and 30, which troopers said gave them a better vantage point to see violations. They said drivers oftentimes don't view it the same as they would a normal patrol car, so they'll commit traffic violations right in front of it.

During the campaign, troopers issued a total of 190 citations:

  • 78 seat belt citations
  • 21 speeding citations
  • 16 texting while driving citations
  • 13 registration law citations
  • seven driving on revoked/suspended driver's license citations
  • four move over law citations
  • two due care law citations
  • one child restraint device citation
  • one traffic control device citation
  • 14 other moving violation citations
  • 33 other non-moving violation citations

In addition, two vehicles were seized, four people were arrested, six motor vehicle crashes were investigated, and six motorists were assisted.
