KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Visitors to the East Tennessee History Center will be transported through Knoxville's first 20 years of television at an exhibit that opens Friday night.

The Tennessee Archive of Moving Image and Sound and the East Tennessee Historical Society worked together to curate the exhibit, which celebrates the 60th anniversary of the launch of television in Knoxville.

"Back in October of 1953, WROL-TV signed on the air and four months later it became WATE-TV Channel 6. And from that time on we've had a lot of great television," said Bradley Reeves, co-founder of the Tennessee Archive of Moving Image and Sound.

The exhibit called "Live! On Air! and In Your Living Room!" also features props, costumes, and equipment from the early days of television.

Friday night's event kicks off with a sneak peek of the exhibit which includes the original 1958 "The Cas Walker Show" backdrop, Bonnie Lou and Buster's costumes, John Cazana's Wrestling costumes, and more.

From 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Kountry Kings Band reunion will provide live music, including Little Jimmy Hartsook, Ray Rose, Kathy Hill, Stoney Stonecipher, David West, and others.

A video screening will take place from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. including surviving film and video clips from the early years of local Knoxville television including classic commercials, Cas Walker, Bonnie Lou and Buster, historic news events, and more.

Friday night's events are free of charge.

The exhibit officially opens Nov. 2 at 10 a.m., running until Feb. 23, 2014.
