KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A program to help area families with early fire prevention is growing thanks to a local church.

Members from West Emory Presbyterian Church collected 150 smoke alarms and donated them to the Knoxville Fire Department.

"These smoke alarms are the first line of defense for folks to survive a fire situation," said Capt. DJ Corcoran. "It gives early detection so people can get out of the their homes in the event of a fire."

The smoke detectors will be added to the nearly 100 devices already being installed in homes annually by firefighters.
