TALBOTT (WATE) - Authorities are searching for a suspect they believe stabbed a man in a Talbott church parking lot Sunday afternoon.

According to Jefferson County Sheriff G.W. "Bud" McCoig, it happened around 4 p.m. at a church along North Rushy Springs Road.

Sheriff McCoig says several people met in the church parking lot allegedly to fight. During that incident, a man was stabbed. The 41-year-old male victim is at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in serious condition.

"When some vehicles pulled into the parking lot, some gentlemen stepped out with wooden clubs, and as some of the victims were trying to leave the area, their vehicles were struck with some wooden clubs," said McCoig.

Investigators are also looking for a person of interest. They believe a man drove into the parking lot and drove some people away in his vehicle.

No names have been released at this time.
