Man killed in head-on Morristown crash

MORRISTOWN (WATE) - A Morristown man was killed in a head-on crash Saturday afternoon.

Officers say the crash happened just before 2 p.m. on Cherokee Drive near the intersection with Katerina Drive.

An accident report indicates a 1998 Acura driven by Joseph Coffey appeared to be exceeding the speed limit going around a curve.

The Acura crossed into the opposite lane, striking a 1994 Ford F150 driven by James Brown head on.

Coffey died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Brown was flown to UT Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Officers said they smelled a strong scent of alcohol around Coffey's vehicle. Blood tests were drawn from both drivers as part of the investigation.
