Johnson City offers new probation program

Posted: Updated:

JOHNSON CITY (AP) - A new probation program in Johnson City is aiming to cut down on crime and improve lives.

The Johnson City Press reports the intensive program called the Day Reporting Center is the first of its kind in Tennessee and that state officials recently visited to see how well it is working.

The program is part of the Johnson City Police Department's Targeted Community Crime Reduction Program, which it began with a federal grant.

Becky Haas, who has overseen the implementation of the program, says the Day Reporting Center targets serious, but nonviolent offenders who have to report to the center where they can get therapy and take educational classes.
