Della Volpe, Brown win Knoxville City Council seats

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Only two of the five Knoxville City Council seats on the ballot were contested in the City of Knoxville's general election Tuesday.

In the race for District 4, Nick Della Volpe edged out Rick Staples with 52.94 percent of the vote.

In the race for District 6, Daniel T. Brown won over Pete Drew by a wide margin, with 83.82 percent of votes.

Districts 1, 2 and 3 were uncontested.

Turnout for the general election was slow, but Election Administrator Cliff Rodgers said voting numbers were up from the primary election.

Rodgers says this was because all of Knoxville's 105,000 registered voters can vote during the general election where they cannot during the primary.
