OLIVER SPRINGS (WATE) - Officials are investigating an Anderson County wildfire as a possible case of arson.

The 50 acre fire is located on Walden's Ridge in Oliver Springs near Highway 330 and Dutch Valley Road.

As of Tuesday night, nine nearby homes and structures close to the fire line were in danger.

The State Department of Forestry says the fire was thought to have originated from a campfire.

Firefighters then realized there were other fires in the area, making it more likely that this was a case of arson.

Officials say the fire likely started on Thursday, but because of weather conditions in the area, the fire wasn't visible until Sunday.

"What we suspect is that there was arson set on top of the ridge, and there was still some kindling burning when it dried out, and it wasn't until Sunday evening that we were actually able to see actual fire on the mountain," said Bruce Miller, a forestry technician.

Members of the Marlow Volunteer Fire Department are helping to contain the 50 acre fire.

An arson investigator is working to determine the cause.
