FARRAGUT (WATE) – A half-million dollar athletic field opened Thursday night in Farragut. It replaces one of the oldest at Mayor Bob Leonard Park.

We're told this field is one of the first of its kind to open to the public in our area.

Between the blades of grass are small pieces of rubber from about 20,000 recycled tires. The grass is made of about 14,000 miles of yarn.

Farragut paid for half of the project with a grant from the state.
