Vets honored with special Veterans Day events, deals


KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Lots of people will be honoring America's heroes this Veterans Day with a variety of deals and events.

If you are a veteran, there are several restaurants and businesses with special free services and food. 

At all these places you just have to show your proof of service to redeem the offer:

  • Frank's Barbershop in Knoxville will provide free haircuts, hot dogs and apple pie.
  • Starbucks will give free coffee to vets and their spouses.
  • Krispy Kreme will give out free doughnuts and coffee to those who served our country.
  • Great Clips will also be providing free hair cuts.
  • At Chili's and Applebee's, veterans and active duty military can eat for free.

In addition to deals, there are a variety of events being held across East Tennessee as a way to thank veterans for their sacrifices:

  • The 88th Annual Veterans Day Parade kicks off Monday morning in Downtown Knoxville. It starts at the Knoxville Coliseum at 10:40 a.m., then the parade will make its way down Gay Street to Depot Street.
  • Knox Area Rescue Ministries will hold its annual Veterans Day dinner at 4:30 p.m. with the service at 6 p.m.
  • Gatlinburg will hold its 12th Annual Salute to the military at 11 a.m. on the plaza at Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies.
  • Oak Ridge National Laboratory will observe Veterans Day with a parade at 10:15 a.m. outside the ORNL Conference Center on Bethel Valley Road. A program will then be held inside at 11 a.m. with a special speaker.
