RUTLEDGE (WATE) - The Grainger County Sheriff's Department is searching for three inmates who were discovered missing from the county jail Sunday night.

Deputies say Dennis Rucker, Shane Farrow and David Valentine were found to be missing after a head count Sunday evening.

Officials are working to search for the three inmates and believe they may have escaped by climbing over the rec-yard wall.

District Attorney General Jimmy Dunn says the three should be considered dangerous because they have prior felony convictions.

Rucker's criminal history reveals charges of drug possession, burglary, theft, underage drinking, domestic assault, and forgery among other charges.

Valentine's record shows charges of burglary, theft, drug possession, and aggravated assault.

Farrow had been charged with drug possession, domestic assault, child abuse, reckless driving, bringing drugs into jail, and violation of probation.

Deputies say two jail employees have been terminated because of the escape. One was the officer in charge.

It's believed they failed to follow proper policies, which allowed the inmates to escape. It's not believed they intentionally let them escape, but instead were negligent.

The employees' names have not been released pending the investigation.

A Grainger County resident, who is also the former high school principal for two of the inmates, told 6 News he hopes they are recovered quickly.

"I always hope they can turn their life around but it doesn't always work out that way," Ronnie Cabbage said.

Cabbage said he was not particularly alarmed by the news of the escape because it has happened before.

"One day I came in and had three police cars in the driveway and they were chasing a young man that they caught," Cabbage said.

Anyone with information on the inmates' whereabouts is asked to call the Grainger County Sheriff's Department at (865) 828-3613 or Grainger County Central Dispatch at (865) 828-3337.
