KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Gary Christian, father of Channon Christian who was murdered with her boyfriend in East Knoxville in January 2007, announced his sponsorship of Knox County assistant attorney general Leland Price for a Knox County judgeship.

Christian made this announcement to his friends on Facebook. He said in part, "I feel that there is something very important that I have to talk about and I should do it now."

Christian, along with his wife Deena and parents of Channon Christian's boyfriend, Chris Newsom, said the four will meet with Senator Randy McNally, State Representative Ryan Haynes and Leland Price on Thursday.

The group says they hope to make important changes to the justice system in the county.

Christian said in his Facebook statement, "the man hates crime, its very simple. He knows that the justice system is flawed and he wants it to be better."

Price has not officially announced a bid for judgeship. The position is being vacated by the retiring Criminal Court Judge Mary Beth Leibowitz.
