Officials looking for new site for Bradley County veterans home

CLEVELAND (AP) - Officials in Cleveland are looking for a new site for a veterans home after hearing from state officials that the planned location is "unacceptable."

Yvette Martinez, assistant commissioner of outreach and communications for the Tennessee Department of Veterans Affairs, told the Chattanooga Times Free Press that the slope of the property is too high to have optimal visibility from the road.

Larry McDaris, director of the Bradley County/Cleveland Veterans Service Office, said the finding was unexpected and "devastating."

He said that more than $80,000 had already been spent on site preparation work and environmental studies.

However, officials say it doesn't mean the end of the project that's been a decade in the making. They are searching for a more suitable location.
