KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Two things you don't want to see at a restaurant are live bugs and rodents. While no customers caught a glimpse of a mouse at one of this week's low scoring restaurants, the inspector saw it.

Agave Azul, 4405 Kingston Pike - Grade: 60

A score below 70 is considered unsanitary.

The inspector writes that no chlorine sanitizer was being used in the final dishwasher rinse. Sanitizer is required to properly clean dishes and utensils.

When the inspector checked a hand sink in the kitchen, it was being used to store chemical bottles. It's supposed to be used for hand washing only.

At another hand sink, there was no cold water. Employees couldn't properly wash their hands.

The back door was propped open. That's an open invitation to critters coming into the kitchen.

Taste of Thai, 8926 Town & Country Circle - Grade: 70

That is a passing score.

The inspector watched an employee prepare celery in a hand sink. That is the wrong place. Food is supposed to be prepared in what's called a vegetable sink, or the three-compartment sink, not an employee hand sink that is likely not sanitized.

In the walk-in cooler, when the inspector checked the temperature of tofu, it was at 52 degrees. Five raw eggs were found at 54 degrees. Each of those temperatures is too warm.

The Hill, 1105 Forest Avenue - Grade: 71

The Hill also received a passing score.

The inspector found a live mouse stuck to a sticky pad in the basement of the popular sports bar and restaurant.

Also in the basement, frying oil was found stored next to paint cans. That is the wrong place.

Top scores of the week:

  • Charley's Grilled Subs, West Town Mall - Grade: 98
  • Mer Mer's Bakery, 617 Gay Street - Grade: 97
  • The Foundry, 747 Jackson Avenue - Grade: 96
  • The French Market, 526 Gay Street - Grade: 95
  • Shoney's, 2612 Chapman Highway - Grade: 95
  • Prime Time NY Style Hot Dog, 800 Gay Street - Grade: 94
  • Dunkin' Donuts, 423 Cedar Bluff Road - Grade: 94
  • Suttree's High Gravity Tavern, 409 Gay Street - Grade: 93

Individual inspection reports are supposed to be posted at restaurants where you can see them.
