Firm behind high school redevelopment plan holds public meeting

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – The firm hoping to redevelop the Old Knoxville High School held another public input meeting Thursday night.

Their idea is to covert the historic building into apartments for senior citizens.

Some neighbors have pushed back on the proposal because they would prefer a mixed-use development. An executive from Family Pride Corp. was at the meeting, listening for suggestions from neighbors.

"Knoxville High is a fabulous building," said Rick Dover with the Family Pride Corp. "It's a national register listed property. It's iconic to Knoxville and we feel that is deserves a total historic preservation and makeover."

County commissioners had a chance to approve the sale of the building last month but delayed the vote until next month.
