KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Some Knox County students helped bring Christmas cheer to memebrs of the military at home and abroad Friday by writing Christmas cards for the troops.

Students at Spring Hill Elementary School were some of the first in East Tennessee to participate in the Holiday Mail for Heroes project.

The campaign is an effort to encourage people to "Give Something That Means Something" this holiday season. Anyone is invited to send cards of thanks, encouragement, and holiday cheer to members of our U.S. Armed Forces, veterans, and their families, many of whom will be far away from home and serving in harm's way this holiday season.

Students told 6 News they just want to bring a little holiday cheer to their heroes.

To participate in the program, just send a card to:

Holiday Mail for Heroes
P.O. Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD 20791

Cards must be postmarked by December 6 to ensure they are delivered by Christmas.
