TOWNSEND (WATE) - A Blount County man who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease died early Wednesday morning after wandering into a pond.

Blount County sheriff's deputies say they responded to the residence of Marion Sidney Stanley, 78, around 3:45 a.m after Stanley's wife discovered he was missing.

A K-9 unit started a track while other deputies and neighbors assisted in searching the area.

A neighbor found a shoe near a pond about 50 years from the residence. Around 7 a.m., deputies found Stanley's body in the pond approximately 10 to 15 yards from the pond's bank.
