Mass. teen indicted in popular teacher's death

SALEM, Mass. (AP) - A 14-year-old Massachusetts boy has been indicted on murder, aggravated rape and armed robbery charges in the death of his popular algebra teacher.

The indictment issued Thursday charges Philip Chism in the Oct. 22 slaying of 24-year-old Danvers High School teacher Colleen Ritzer.

Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett says the indictments detail horrific and unspeakable acts.

The indictment says Chism sexually assaulted Ritzer with an unspecified object before killing her. A ruling on her cause of death is pending.

Authorities say Chism was armed with a box cutter and also stole Ritzer's credit cards, iPhone and underwear.

Chism previously pleaded not guilty to a murder charge and is being held without bail. A message seeking comment was left with his attorney.

Chism had moved to Massachusetts from Tennessee before the start of the school year.
